Valley Health Team (VHT) is a Federally Qualified Health Center (FQHC) serving rural and underserved communities across Fresno, Tulare, and Inyo Counties through comprehensive, culturally responsive, and linguistically accessible healthcare. As a leader in integrated primary care and behavioral health, VHT provides patient-centered services with a strong emphasis on addressing social determinants of health and meeting the needs of diverse populations, including migrant and seasonal farmworkers. VHT offers robust behavioral health services—including two school-based health centers in the Kerman Unified School District—where clinicians and trainees collaborate with primary care providers, educators, and case managers to deliver trauma-informed assessment, intervention, crisis response, and care coordination for children, adolescents, adults, and families. Through this partnership, our trainees gain hands-on experience in integrated care, psychological evaluation, individual and family therapy, substance use disorder (SUD) prevention and treatment, interprofessional consultation, and community outreach within high-need Central Valley communities.
Adventist Health / Central California Network (AHCCN) is a large nonprofit Rural Health Clinic (RHC) system serving rural communities across Fresno, Kern, Kings, Madera, and Tulare Counties. AHCCN integrates behavioral health within primary care using evidence-based screening tools to guide assessment, referral, and treatment. Behavioral health services include diagnostic evaluation, treatment planning, psychotherapy, crisis intervention, and care coordination, with plans to expand into full psychological assessment. Trainees placed across the Selma, Hanford, and Tulare clinics gain experience with diverse patient populations—including agricultural workers, military families, and individuals with complex medical needs—while providing intakes, psychological evaluations, individual and group therapy, SUD prevention and treatment, and interprofessional consultation.
Pleasant Valley State Prison (PVSP) is a California Department of Corrections and Rehabilitation institution housing incarcerated men and providing trauma-informed, interdisciplinary medical and mental health services through California Correctional Health Care Services (CCHCS). PVSP offers outpatient mental health care, diagnostic evaluation, psychotherapy, and a wide range of rehabilitative programs, including Integrated Substance Use Disorder Treatment, Medication-Assisted Treatment, and cognitive-behavioral groups. Trainees gain experience working with individuals who commonly present with depression, anxiety, psychotic and mood disorders, personality disorders, and substance use disorders, often in the context of extensive trauma histories. Training activities include suicide risk assessment, clinical intakes, Rules Violation Assessments, individual and group therapy, co-facilitated groups with nursing staff, collaboration with psychiatric technicians in the Enhanced Outpatient Program, and participation in interdisciplinary treatment team huddles.
